In a time where our city is often divided with polarizing viewpoints, Julie Holmer believes that Plano must have council members willing to listen to everyone and committed to understanding what the actual issues are..
A Record of Service
Not long ago, Julie received a message from a neighbor concerned about her husband. He was homebound, suffering from ALS, and desperate to get his COVID-19 vaccine. Julie knew exactly who to call. Two hours later, he got his vaccination thanks to the Plano Fire Department.
“Their response speaks to why I love this city so much,” Julie said.
Her service to the community is unrivaled. As a 13-year-old, she wanted a job but was obviously too young to be hired anywhere. Instead, Julie’s father offered to pay her if she volunteered for the Plano Cultural Arts Center, now known as ArtCentre of Plano. It was the first of many volunteer posts she would come to hold. Julie was on the 2020 Census Committee and Plano’s Marketing and Special Events Subcommittee. She was also a member of the Young Men’s Service League and vice president of the Carpenter Middle School PTA. Julie has been an active PTA mom for many years, as well as past Pickleball Ambassador. When an unprecedented winter storm hit back in February, Julie immediately sprang into action. She solicited donations from her vast network of contacts and was quickly able to fill two vans with supplies for The Salvation Army’s overnight warming station. She then picked up, delivered and served meals to displaced families staying at Grace Church.

Commitment to Plano
Julie Holmer is running for city council because she loves her hometown and wants to give back. She graduated from Plano Senior High School and has been a community advocate ever since. That includes volunteer stints with the Historic Downtown Plano Association, the Parks Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce and the Heritage Farmstead Museum among others.
Julie is a graduate of Leadership Plano, Plano Citizens Police and Plano Citizens Fire Academy. She is the only Place 7 candidate whose own children attend Plano ISD schools.
Julie believes that Plano’s people are its greatest assets. If elected, she would support competitive salaries for city staff, first responders and teachers to ensure they have the training and tools they need. She would also work to better support small businesses and promote arts programs through city grants. Her belief is that Plano should be EVERYONE’s neighborhood. She vows to make sure that all efforts to attract businesses would prioritize keeping Plano a city that is inclusive and accepting.
“I surround myself with people across the political spectrum and I’ve earned their support because they know I am open-minded and truly want to hear what is important to ALL of Plano,” she says.
